Volunteer in Venice Beach, CA.
Cleaning
Venice”
When
I was in California, I went to a volunteer in Venice Beach to clean up the
beach. In my experience, I thought it would be warmer, but in reality American
beaches are cold and you should wear a hoodie for the cold. The project is
called “Cleaning Venice”, you end up a bit tired but happy because seeing the
clean beach is a great reward, also in the progress you make a lot of new friends,
and some of the activities we did were these:
- Each person collected some garbage bags.
-They designated an area for you to flatten the sand.
-Then you separated the plastic, glass and metal waste.
-They designated a place for you to arrange the lounge
chairs and umbrellas.
-We were supposed to help paint the railing of the dock
and file the wood, as well as sweep and paint the ramps for the disabled.
In Mexico, associations like Caritas and Voluntarios Mexico can designate you one of these tasks or camps of many types to help social progress. Its purpose is to raise awareness about the protection of the environment. It proposes concrete and viable alternatives for solutions and denounces actions that threaten the health of our environment and the beings that inhabit it. Within this type of volunteering is the protection of animals, environmental education, ecological awareness campaigns, etc.
There
are other options that can even offer you just a salary to cover your costs and
you can do them in hostels, ecovillages, beaches, etc., you do it through the
Worldpackers.com page. They are experiences that I highly recommend, I already
want to participate in one again.
Saving turtles in Quintana Roo
Hello, everyone!
This month I will be volunteering at a turtle camp in Quintana Roo. I am very excited!
Last Monday I arrived in Mexico and took a flight to Quintana Roo. The meeting point with the people in charge was the airport, there I met my companions, all of them came from different parts of the world, it was amazing, although we didn't talk much. Then we stayed in a hotel near the city to bathe and change clothes, that same day we had a small tour of Quintana Roo, the weather was very sunny but then it started to rain.
The next day we were assigned to groups, I had to go to Playa del Carmen and I will be here for the duration of the volunteer work.
Every day we do night walks along the beach, the first night I counted the female turtles, there were quite a few but at dawn they hid. The second day my colleagues and I cleaned the nests so that the turtles could breed and at night we released the turtles that were ready to go to the sea.
We also do tours of other beaches, pick up garbage, measure and count turtles.
I am very tired but I am satisfied with my work. Today is my day off, but in the next few days I will be attending conferences and trainings as we will be receiving tourists explaining the work we do and the importance of preserving the ecosystem. I will also be making food and cleaning the house where we are staying, all of this is a lot of fun.
I hope to write you soon and tell you more about my volunteer experiences.
See you soon!
Cleaning Puerto Vallarta
I haven't had many experiences volunteering, but a few years
ago I went on a family vacation to Puerto Vallarta.
One day we were there, we had already visited most of the
attractions, we were about to leave, my family and I were decided to take some
bags and pick up the garbage that was both in the hotel and on the beach where
we were, It was a very beautiful experience, feeling that I did something for
the planet together with my family. I remember that the hotel guards joined us
and were very grateful and happy with us.
